Abstract

Osmanlı modernleşmesinin Cumhuriyet le birlikte öne çıkarılan kadının toplumsal yaşama katılması yönündeki vurgusu, doğrudan Mustafa Kemal in öncülük ettiği ve devlet kurumları özellikle eğitim kurumlarıyla desteklenen balolarla ortaya çıkar. Cumhuriyet baloları, bütün elitizm, taklitçilik ve yozlaşma eleştirilerine karşılık, kadının ve toplumsal yaşamda kadın-erkek birlikteliğinin aracı ve simgesi olmuştur.

This article studies the Republican emphasis on women s participation on social life through Ballroom Ceremonies which were supported by the state institutions and education in the early years of Turkish Republic under the personal initiation of Mustafa Kemal. The article emphasizes that, despite the criticism of inherent elitism, uncritical adoption of western practices and also cultural corruption that were often attributed to these ceremonies, Republican Ballroom Ceremonies has become a symbol of the equality of men and women in social life.
