dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.

dc.description.abstractAhmet Andiçen 1908’de Saraybosna’da doğdu. Yugoslavya’da askeri bandolarda ve saray orkestrasında başarılı bir kariyeri oldu. Ancak Gizli Genç Kemalist Teşkilatında faaliyet gösterdiği için Türk casusu olduğu şüphesiyle tutuklandı ve işkence gördü. Türkiye Büyükelçiliğinin yardımlarıyla Bulgaristan üzerinden Türkiye’ye kaçırıldı. Atatürk tarafından Riyaset-i Cumhur Senfoni Orkestrasına öğretmen olarak atandı. Sincan’da çiftçilik ve belediye başkanlığı yaptı. Onkoloji hastanesinin yapımını üstlendi ve kan bankasını kurdu. Sincan’a camii ve okullar yaptırdı. Sayısız bağışlarıyla ülkesine hizmet etmiş bir hayırsever olarak 1991’de öldü.
dc.description.abstractAhmet Andiçen was born in 1908 in Sarajevo. He had a successful career in military bands and King Alexander’s orchestra in Yugoslavia. However, he was arrested with the suspicion that he was a Turkish spy because of his activities in the Secret Association of Young Kemalists. Thanks to the assistance of the Turkish Embassy, he was smuggled to Turkey via Bulgaria. He was appointed to Riyaset-i Cumhur Symphony Orchestra by Atatürk. He worked as a farmer and mayor in Sincan. In addition to establishing a blood bank, he undertook the construction of the oncology hospital. He donated a mosque and schools to Sincan. He died in 1991 as a philanthropist who served his country with his countless donations.
