This paper's primary research objective is to demonstrate how a hotel can have such a significant impact on Istanbul's tourism industry and modernization concerning its place in history and culture. Due to its location and character, the Pera Palace Hotel served as a symbol of Istanbul's modernization that contains the elements of both the east and west. The stones of modernization paved in the city of Istanbul after the developments occurred in the tourism industry. Therefore, the tourism industry is located at such a significant point that it cannot be replaceable regarding the modernization of Istanbul. Since the main improvement that occurred in the tourism industry was made in order to meet European standards for foreigners in terms of modernization, the impressions and perspectives of foreign travellers as well as foreign people who lived in Istanbul were critical and influential regarding further developments and considerations. In addition to discussing relations between Europe, the Ottoman Empire, and Turkey, the research paper intends to focus on foreigners’ perceptions and experiences of Istanbul and the Pera Palace Hotel. Further, from the perspectives of Istanbul residents and tourists from other countries, comparisons will be made between Istanbul's hotels, architecture, and modernization over time.en_US
