dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.en_US

dc.description.abstractFelsefe, Antik Yunanlar ile bağdaştırılan bir düşünce şekliydi. Özellikle 19. ve 20. Yüzyıllarda değişikliklere uğradı ve kendi alanında önemli birçok filozofu ve akımları barındırdı. Bu filozoflardan biri olan Karl R. Popper’ın ünü tüm dünyaya yayılmıştı. Kendisinin Türkçeye uyarlanan önemli makaleleri ve kitapları, henüz yeni gelişmekte olan Türk Felsefesine önemli katkı sağlamıştır. 20. Yüzyıl için hem Dünyada hem de Türkiye’de önemli bir isim haline gelen Popper’in yanı sıra, Cumhuriyet Dönemi sonrası Türkiye’de ilk Türk Kadın Filozof olarak bilinen İoanna Kuçuradi’nin de ahlak normları ve düşünceleri dönem için önemli bir etkiye sahiptir. Felsefi alandaki en büyük eksiklik eğitim alanındadır. Bu araştırma, Celal Şengör’ün yaptığı yorumlar eşliğinde; Türkiye’de eğitim alanında yapılan hataları ve Türkiye’deki felsefi eksiklikleri gün yüzüne çıkarmayı amaçlar.en_US
dc.description.abstractPhilosophy has been seen as a way of thinking that is associated with Ancient Greeks. Especially in the 19th and 20th centuries, it underwent various changes and hosted many schools of thought and philosophers who were important in their field. The fame of one of these philosophers, Karl Popper, was spread throughout the globe. Translations of his books and articles had a crucial impact on Turkish philosophy which had just started emerging. Alongside Popper, who became an important name for Turkey and the world in the 20th century, the moral norms and ideas of Ioanna Kuçuradi, the first woman philosopher in Turkey, had a crucial impact in that era as well. The greatest weakness of philosophy in Turkey is in terms of education. This study aims to uncover the mistakes that have been made in the education system and the weaknesses of philosophy in Turkey in light of Celal Şengör’s commentary.en_US
