Abstract

The subject of this article is about to the relations between football and the media in terms of folkloric tradition. The changes in our social, cultural political and economic situations have affected the traditional ways of living and as a result of that, the folkloric elements such as idioms which are the part of our lives have taken their roles in this ever-changing conditions. As a result of rather important economical, political, cultural, social etc. reasons, Football is regarded as not only a game but also an industrial sector. So the media wants to take advantage of its potential. For that reason, in this article, it is asserted that with the help of Football matches, programmes about Football in TV and columns about Football in the newspapers, the media makes up a common language which is related with football that is shared by large crowds of people who are interested in football. Therefore, it is stated that it turns out to be that many people who talk about football, begin to talk in a way within the limits of "Football Language". Finally, "Football Language" makes up its own idioms and idioms as a folkloric element takes their places in this process in a way which we will try to explain.
