Organic agriculture is a production discipline that is equipped with the techniques of controlling every stage and certification of the produced product, does not harm human health and the environment, and does not use chemical inputs in production. While agriculture in Turkey until the 1950s was very similar to organic agriculture, various chemicals were applied to agricultural areas in order to increase productivity. Since 1984, due to the demand for products such as dried grapes and dried figs from Europe, organic agriculture has been put into effect in a controlled and certified manner in Turkey. The development of organic agriculture in Turkey was examined through the legal process, the commercial aspect, the social impact, the introduction to the curriculum in the academy, and the projects carried out by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. Information about commercial aspects of organic agriculture was gathered through an interview with Vedat Kaplan, the agricultural engineer of Işık Organic, which is Turkey's first organic agriculture company. Prof. Haluk Çağlar Kaymak, an instructor from the Atatürk University Faculty of Agriculture shared his experiences with the academic perspective of organic agriculture in the academy. In the study, the development of organic agriculture in Turkey was investigated and a versatile synthesis was carried out.en_US
