| dc.description | The History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards. | en_US |

| dc.description.abstract | Bu makale; 1950'lerde Mardin, Nusaybin'de patlak veren sıtma salgınına odaklanarak o dönemdeki sıtma ile mücadele çabalarını anlamaya yönelik bir derleme sunmaktadır. Bölgede sıtma ile mücadelede aktif bir rol oynayan Âdem Zeki Pekbaş ile yapılan röportajlar ile dönemdeki zorlukların, başarıların ve çevre analizlerinin detaylı bir şekilde incelenmesi hedeflenmektedir. Makale; bölgedeki doktor sayısı, ekipman durumu gibi temel faktörleri ele alarak sıtma salgınının boyutunu ve bu salgının diğer bölgelerle karşılaştırıldığında nasıl bir öncelik taşıdığını incelemektedir. Ayrıca, sıtma ile mücadele sırasında karşılaşılan zorluklar, ilaç ve tıbbi kaynakların durumu gibi temel konuları kapsayarak o dönemdeki sağlık altyapısını, kaynaklara olan ihtiyacı ve nasıl temin edildiklerini vurgulamaktadır. | |
| dc.description.abstract | This article delves into the malaria epidemic that emerged in Mardin Province, with a specific focus on the district of Nusaybin during the 1950s. The compilation aims to provide a nuanced understanding of the efforts undertaken to combat malaria during this historical period. Interviews conducted with Âdem Zeki Pekbaş, a key figure actively involved in the fight against malaria, offer a detailed perspective on the challenges, achievements, and environmental considerations of that time. The article systematically addresses crucial factors such as the number of doctors in the region, the state of medical equipment, and scrutinizes the scale of the malaria outbreak in comparison to other regions within Mardin Province. Additionally, by examining fundamental aspects like challenges encountered during malaria control, the state of pharmaceuticals, and the condition of medical resources, the article underscores the healthcare infrastructure of that era, the need for resources, and how they were procured. Ultimately, this historiographic perspective provides valuable insights for contemporary strategies in coping with health crises and societal preparedness in the broader context of Mardin Province. | |
