Istanbul met with metro systems in 1875 with the Tunnel initiative of French engineer Eugene Henri Gavand. This rail system, located in the direction of Karaköy - Beyoğlu, is the first metro system of Istanbul and the Ottoman Empire, so it has special importance. Although there were different subway attempts in the years after the Tunnel, all of them failed. The efforts to expand the rail system gained speed in the 80s with the establishment of Metro Istanbul and the metro infrastructure of Istanbul started to develop rapidly. M1 Yenikapı- Atatürk Airport metro, which is the second metro of Istanbul, was put into service in 1989.en_US
