dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.

dc.description.abstractBu makalede İstanbul Maratonu'nun tarihi ele alınmıştır. İstanbul Maratonu öncesinde Türkiye'de atletizmin ne durumda olduğunu görebilmek için Türkiye'de atletizmin nasıl başladığı, 1979 yılı öncesinde Türkiye'de düzenlenmiş olan koşular ve önemli Türk atletler incelenmiştir. İstanbul Maratonu'nun nasıl başladığı ve günümüze kadar gelen 41 yıllık süreçte ne tür değişimler geçirdiği gözlemlenmiştir. Bu bağlamda İstanbul Maratonu'nda yaşanan bütçe sıkıntıları ve bu sıkıntıların organizasyon koşullarına olan etkisi, 17 Ağustos 1999 depreminin maratona olan etkisi ve maratonda yaşanan isim değişiklikleri ele alınmıştır. Günümüzde İstanbul Maratonu'nun taşıdığı anlama ve iletmeyi amaçladığı mesajlara yer verilmiştir.
dc.description.abstractIn this article, the history of Ġstanbul Marathon is investigated. To observe the status of athletics before Ġstanbul Marathon, the beginning of athletics in Turkey, races organized in Turkey before 1979 and important Turkish athletes were explored. The beginning of İstanbul Marathon and the changes it has undergone in this 41-year period were analyzed. In that sense, budget problems and effects of these problems on the organization, the effects of 17 August 1999 earthquake on marathon and name alterations throughout marathon's history were investigated. The significance of Ġstanbul Marathon today and messages the marathon aims to deliver were included.
