dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST209) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.

dc.description.abstractAlignment of Anatolian Rock with the modernization process of Turkey is what makes it special. In fact, from the beginning of the Turkish Republic, Anatolian Folk was considered as a base of new music replacing Arabic-Islamic Ottoman music; the ideas were to combine the classic Anatolian Folk with modern Western music to create a modern Turkish music which led to Anatolian Rock decades later. It is considered that Anatolian Rock had left revolutionary impacts on society from political and cultural perspectives. Unlike other literature about Anatolian Rock and its effects, the aim of this paper is to analyze the cause and effects of this music genre by putting culture and society in the spotlight, while some political aspects are discussed as well.

Esasen Türkiye Cumhuriyeti'nin başlangıcından itibaren Dini ve Arap esintili Osmanlı müziğinin yerini alan Anadolu Folk, zamanla bir temel haline gelmiş ve Batılı müziğiyle birleşmesi ortaya Anadolu Rock’ı çıkarmıştır. Anadolu Rock’ın toplum üzerine siyasi ve kültürel açıdan devrim niteliğinde etkiler bıraktığı değerlendiriliyor. Diğer literatürlerden farklı olarak bu yazı, Anadolu Rock'ın kökenlerine ve etkilerine kültür ve toplum açısından detaylı bir şekilde odaklanıp, bunun yanı sıra bazı politik yönleri de değerlendirmektir.
