Abstract
Alignment of Anatolian Rock with the modernization process of Turkey is what makes it special. In fact, from the beginning of the Turkish Republic, Anatolian Folk was considered as a base of new music replacing Arabic-Islamic Ottoman music; the ideas were to combine the classic Anatolian Folk with modern Western music to create a modern Turkish music which led to Anatolian Rock decades later. It is considered that Anatolian Rock had left revolutionary impacts on society from political and cultural perspectives. Unlike other literature about Anatolian Rock and its effects, the aim of this paper is to analyze the cause and effects of this music genre by putting culture and society in the spotlight, while some political aspects are discussed as well.
