Village Institutes were opened in 1940 -in order to train primary school teachers in Turkey- with a project managed by Hasan Ali Yücel, the Minister of National Education of the time. Akçadağ Village Institute is one of the schools opened within the scope of this project. Functioning as Akçadağ Village Institute between 1940-1954, this institution was changed into Akçadağ Primary Teachers School in 1954 and continued under this name until 1970. This change was not just a name change; from the architectural structures of the campus to the curriculum, and even the student profile between these two terms have shown great changes since there had been both male and female students in first term and it changed its policy to have only male students in classes when it converted into Akçadağ Primary Teachers School. Prof. Dr. Ferit Pehlivan is a valuable person who studied at the Akçadağ Primary Teachers School in 1955 and graduated from there. In order to understand the importance of Akçadağ Village Institute and Primary Teachers' School in the history of Turkish education, it was useful to investigate Ferit Pehlivan's life, academic personality and approach to education.en_US
