dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.en_US

dc.description.abstractİhsan Doğramacı Bilkent Üniversitesi’ndeki HIST 200 dersi kapsamında yapılan bu çalışmada Güneydoğu Anadolu’daki önemli bir Neolitik arkeolojik alan olan Göbeklitepe Ören Yeri’nin kazı tarihi, buradaki yapıların özellikleri ve bu özelliklerden hareketle ortaya atılan teoriler üzerinde durulmuş, Türkiye Cumhuriyeti Devleti’nin kültür ve turizm politikaları çerçevesinde Göbeklitepe’nin kamuoyundaki algısı ve medyadaki temsili çeşitli yönleriyle araştırılmıştır. Medyadaki temsili ve UNESCO Dünya Mirası Listesi’ne girmesiyle birlikte popülerliği artan Göbeklitepe hakkında ortaya atılan teorilerdeki düşünce farklılıkları bu çalışmada sosyo-ekonomik ve siyasi boyutlarıyla ele alınmıştır.en_US
dc.description.abstractIn this research conducted for the HIST 200 course at the İhsan Doğramacı Bilkent University, Göbeklitepe, an important neolithic archaeological site located in the Southeastern Anatolia was investigated for its history of excavation, importance in the archaeological record, the theories based on the excavation findings. The culture and tourism policies of Turkey and the reflection of these policies on media tools and the general public were the main interest of the research. The differences amongst the theories that have been produced after the mass media representation and the site being accepted into UNESCO World Heritage List were discussed in socio-economic and political context.en_US
