Abstract

This article, which aims to expound the reference world of slang related to military service, initially introduces a theoretical background to the concept of slang, while dealing with the relation between slang and metaphor and the metaphoric structure of slang. Subsequently, it is put forth that military service slang has two worlds of reference. One of these worlds is related to slang expressions referring to kinship, which is expounded in terms of society's conception of military service. The other is related to the lexical field of death, which is discussed in terms of the dangers of military service as well as the codification process of this danger.
