The first chapter of this thesis is a discussion of the studies that focus on the Ottoman nasihatnâme literature, with a reference to a short text that was appended to the end of Enisü’l-Ârifin written by Pir Mehmed Azmî (d. 1582) in 1566. The second part is on the relation between the text of Azmî Efendi and Feridüddin Attar’s Pendnâme. Focusing on the question whether the text is a writing or a translation, it is aimed to discuss the place of Azmi Efendi’s text in the translation tradition of its time. Focusing mainly on the correlation between the Pendnâme-i Azmi and oral culture, along with the popularity of the text, the last chapter of this thesis deals with the functions of the nasihatname texts in the society that they are produced for.en_US
