Migration from Turkey to Europe began in the 1960s. In the context of Emirdağ, external migration was most concentrated in Belgium. Immigrants who worked in coal mines and the industrial sector later took their families with them and this started their settlement process. This settlement brought along the processes of identity formation and integration following the initial economic concerns. First generations of migrants faced challenges like language barriers, cultural and class differences, and inadequate state policies. This led future generations to have problems with sense of belonging, intergenerational conflict, and discrimination in social and educational life. With the formation of the Turkish diaspora in Belgium, immigrants have shown solidarity through social spaces, while preserving their culture. Over time, Turkish people have started to become more active in the economy and politics, starting their own businesses and taking part in the elections of local governments and members of parliament.
