This thesis inspects the reflections of the ideological aspects of a nation-state’s over childhood issue of the political powers of the early Republican era and the AKP government concerning two different periodicals called Gürbüz Türk Çocuğu and Sevgi Bir Kuş. This study argues that the selected children’s magazines produced literary texts influenced by the institutional policies of publishers, while they present the political ideology of the existing powers over childhood to the child reader directly or implicitly. The ideal childhood discourses, which were modified according to the changing political power of the period, were intended to be conveyed to the child reader by instrumentalizing the literature at the point of forming a national identity. Therefore, it is significant to examine the literary products in the children’s magazine published by the “Children’s Protection Agency”, one of the official instruments of the state, to see how the discourse of the power changed over time in the context of child policies and nation-state. Peter Hollindale’s critical theory concerning the children's literature and ideology constitutes the basic theoretical background of the thesis; and as a secondary source, I utilized the studies on children’s literature and the construction of national identities of states.en_US
