The first participation in the Olympic Games from Turkey was made in 1924 by forty-one male athletes. The first Turkish female athletes to participate in the Olympics were Halet Çambel and Suat Fetgeri Aşen, who competed in fencing at the Berlin 1936 Summer Olympic Games. After the participation of Çambel and Aşeni, the number of Turkish female athletes participating in the Olympics has gradually increased in the period until today. Even though the appearance of the success of the female athletes in the media has increased, it is still not much of a progress made compared to support for men. Aside from the media, the overall support for Turkish female athletes has not improved much since.en_US
