dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.en_US

dc.description.abstractBu araştırmanın amacı Türkiye’nin ilk fotoğraf makinesi tamircilerinden Ali Değer’in hayatını ele alarak cumhuriyet sonrası dönemde Türkiye’de fotoğrafçılık ve fotoğraf makinesi tamirciliğini yansıtmaktır. Yazının giriş bölümünde Türkiye’de fotoğrafçılık ve fotoğraf makinesi tamirciliğinin başladığı zamandan günümüze kadar olan gelişim sürecinin genel bir anlatımına yer verilmiştir. Kalan bölümlerde ise günümüzde de fotoğraf tamirciliğini ustalıkla yapmaya devam eden amatör fotoğrafçı Ali Değer’in hayatı, fotoğraf sanatı ve makinelerle tanışması, fotoğraf tamirciliği mesleğindeki gelişimi ve fotoğraf makinesi koleksiyonu incelenmiştir. 60’ların sonunda fotoğraf makinesi tamirciliği kariyerine başlayan Ali Değer, günümüze kadar dayanan ustalığı boyunca kendini her zaman ileri taşımış ve Türkiye’nin en çok bilinen fotoğraf makinesi tamircilerinden biri haline gelmiştir. Bu süreçte fotoğraf makinesi parçalarının temin edilememesi gibi Türkiye’nin o dönemki durumunun sektöre yansımalarından etkilenmemiş, yurt dışından temin ettiği parçaları Türkiye’nin dört bir yanına dağıtmış ve zaman zaman bu parçaları kendisi üretmiştir. Ayrıca Ali Değer günümüzde Türkiye’nin en büyük fotoğraf makinesi koleksiyonlarından birine ev sahipliği yapmaktadır.en_US
dc.description.abstractThe aim of this research is to reflect on the photography and camera repair in Turkey during the post-republic period, by examining the life of Ali Değer, one of Turkey's first camera repairmen. The introduction of the article provides a general description of the evolution of photography and camera repair in Turkey from the time it began to the present day. In the remaining sections, his life, how he met the art of photography and cameras, his development in the profession of camera repair and his camera collection are examined. Ali Değer, who began his career in camera repair in the late 1960s, has always pushed himself forward throughout his long-lasting expertise and has become one of Turkey's most well-known camera repairmen. During this process, he was not affected by the reflections of Turkey's then-current situation on the sector, such as the inability to obtain camera parts, and distributed parts he obtained from abroad to all cities of Turkey, and sometimes produced these parts himself. In addition, today Ali Değer hosts one of Turkey's largest camera collections.en_US
