dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.en_US

dc.description.abstractKalp insan vücudunun en temel parçalarından biridir. Bu yüzden de kalp naklinin dünyamızda ve Türkiye’de oldukça önemli bir yeri vardır. Bu araştırmada Türkiye’nin ilk yapay kalp naklini gerçekleştiren Hakkı Akalın’ın hayatı ve yaptığı bu ameliyatın süreci üzerinde durulmuştur. Aynı zamanda yapay kalp naklinin dünyadaki yerine de değinilmiştir. Türkiye’de ilk yapay kalp nakli ameliyatı Hakkı Akalın tarafından kalp yetmezliği olan Halit Şahin’e yapılmıştır ve Şahin bu kalple 1 ay hayatını sürdürmüştür. Bu ilk yapay kalp naklinin ardından Hakkı Akalın Ankara Üniversitesi’nde ilk altı kalp ameliyatını gerçekleştirerek Türkiye’de askıya alınan gerçek kalp nakillerinin devam etmesine öncülük etmiştir. Hakkı Akalın gerçekleştirdiği bu ilkin yanı sıra Ankara Üniversitesi’nde Kalp Damar Kliniği kuruculuğu yapmış ve ana bilim dalı başkanı olmuştur. Bunlara ek olarak Cumhuriyet Halk Partisinde XXII. dönem milletvekilliği yapmıştır. Aynı zamanda kendisi Galatasaray spor kulübünde hala kongre üyesidir ve özel muayenehanesinde çalışmalarına devam etmektedir.en_US
dc.description.abstractThe heart is one of the most basic parts of the human body. Therefore, heart transplantation has a very important place in our world and in Turkey. In this research, the life of Hakkı Akalın, who performed Turkey's first artificial heart transplant, and the process of this surgery, were emphasized and the place of artificial heart transplant in the world was also mentioned. The first artificial heart transplant surgery in Turkey was performed by Hakkı Akalın on Halit Şahin, who had heart failure, and Şahin lived with this heart for 1 month. After this first artificial heart transplant, he performed the first six heart surgeries at Ankara University and pioneered the continuation of suspended real heart transplants in Turkey. In 2 addition to this, Hakkı Akalın was the founder of the Cardiovascular Clinic at Ankara University and became the head of the department. He was also the XXII. term parliament member. Currently, he is a congress member at Galatasaray sports club and continues his work in his private clinic.en_US
