dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.en_US

dc.description.abstractSiyasi depremlerin sarsıntıları özellikle 12 Eylül Darbesi ile Sümerbank’ı geri dönülmez bir yola sokmuştur. Bu yıllarda süregelen Sağ-Sol çatışmasının yanı sıra cinsiyetçilik de fabrikaların işleyişine ket vurmuştur. Bir zamanlar çalışanların cennetten bir köşe olarak tanımladığı meşhur sosyal tesisler çürümeye terk edilmiş ve düzenlenen Avrupa tarzı etkinlikler 12 Eylül Darbesi ile bıçak gibi kesilmiştir. Hükümetten farklı düşünen fabrika çalışanları Doğu illerine sürülürken hükümet destekçisi liyakatsız müdürler koltuk kapma yarışına girmiş ve Sümerbank’ın yavaş ve hüzünlü çöküşünü hızlandırmıştır. Bu makale, 12 Eylül darbesinin etkilerini; Sümerbank çalışanları, fabrikalarının iç düzeni ve bulundukları lokasyonlar üzerindeki etkisi üzerinden yaşanan değişimleri, 1970-1990 tarih aralığını odağa alarak, inceleme amacıyla yazılmıştır.
dc.description.abstractThe tremors of the political earthquakes have put Sümerbank on an irreversible path, especially with the September 12 Coup. In addition to the ongoing Right-Left conflict in these years, sexism has also affected the functioning of factories. The famous social facilities, which the employees once described as a corner from heaven, have been left to rot, and the European style events organized have been cut like a knife by the September 12 Coup. While factory employees who thought differently from the government were deported to the East part of Turkey, government-supporting incompetent managers entered a race to grab seats at “the high table”. It accelerated the slow and sad collapse of Sümerbank. December September 12th This article was written for the purpose of examining the effects of the September 12th coup, the changes experienced by Sümerbank employees, the internal layout of their factories and the impact on their locations, focusing on the date range of 1970-1990.
