| dc.description | The History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards. | |

| dc.description.abstract | Osmanlı İmparatorluğu sonrasında, ardı ardına gelişen savaşlar neticesinde, Türkiye’deki fotoğrafçılık çalışmaları aksadı ve batıdaki gelişmelerden geri kaldı. Cumhuriyetin erken dönemleri ile birlikte başkent Ankara ve İstanbul'da fotoğrafçılık alanında hatırı sayılır çalışmalar başlatıldı. 1932’de halkevlerinin açılması ile birlikte kültür ve sanat çalışmaları hızlandı, sanatçıların ve fotoğrafçıların yetişmesine katkıda bulunuldu. Bu tarihin öncesinde resmi evrak işleri için yalnızca bir araç olan fotoğrafçılık, artık sanat dalı olarak kabul edilmeye başlandı. Dişli ailesi de bu noktada oldukça önemli isimlerin arasında yer almaktaydı. Şanlıurfa'da Sadık Dişli ile başlayan “Foto Sadık” ’ın hikayesi, daha sonra nesilden nesile aktarılarak oğlu Cemal Faruk Dişli ile “Edessa Fotoğraf” ismini alarak Türkiye’nin birçok şehrinde hizmet vermeye devam etti. Zamanla büyüyen Edessa Fotoğraf, Ankara’nın çeşitli ilçelerine ve İstanbul’a yayılarak şubeleşti. Aile, günümüzde halen torunları ve çocukları tarafından birçok şube ile fotoğrafçılık alanında hizmet vermeye devam etmektedir. Bu çalışmada Türk fotoğrafçılık tarihinin gelişimi ve Dişli Ailesi’nin fotoğrafçılık alanına katkıları anlatıldı. | |
| dc.description.abstract | After the Ottoman Empire, due to the successive wars, photography studies in Turkey were disrupted and lagged the developments in the West. With the early periods of the Republic, considerable work was initiated in the field of photography in the capital Ankara and Istanbul. With the opening of halkevi centers in 1932, cultural and artistic activities accelerated and contributed to the training of artists and photographers. Photography, which was just a tool for official paperwork before this date, now began to be accepted as a form of art. The Dişli Family was also among the very important names at this point. The story of "Foto Sadık", which started with Sadık Dişli in Şanlıurfa, was later passed down from generation to generation and continued to serve in many cities of Turkey by taking the name "Edessa Fotoğrafçılık" with his son Cemal Faruk Dişli. Growing over time, Edessa Photography branched out to various districts of Ankara and Istanbul. Today, the family continues to provide services in the field of photography with many branches by their grandchildren and children. In this study, the development of the history of Turkish Photography and the contributions of the Dişli Family to the field of photography were explained. | |
