dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.en_US

dc.description.abstractProfesör Doktor Ömer Tarman 27 Nisan 1898 tarihinde Çankırı, Türkiye'de dünyaya gelmiştir. Bursa Ameliyat Ziraat Lisesinden mezun olmuştur. Lise yıllarında onu akranlarından ayıran tarıma duyduğu ilgi ve sahip olduğu pratik zekâ, eğitim hayatına tarım konusunda ileri gelen ülkelerden Almanya'da burs alarak devam etmesini sağlamıştır. Lisede aldığı eğitimi Almanya'da ilerletme fırsatı bulan Ömer Tarman, orada eğitim gördüğü altı yılın sonunda çalışmalarına Türkiye’de devam etmiştir. Türkiye'de yem bitkileri, mera ve hayvancılık sektörüne katkıları olan çalışmalar yürütmüş, örnek tarım alanlarının kurulmasına ve tarım eğitimi ve araştırması ile ilgili kurumların açılmasına öncülük etmiştir. Başta Türkiye'de olmak üzere ziraat alanına katkıları ve edindiği tecrübelerle alanında saygı duyulan bir araştırmacı ve öğretmen haline gelmiştir. Başarılarından dolayı Prof. Dr. Ömer Tarman’a Federal Alman Cumhurbaşkanı tarafından 1. sınıf liyakat nişanı verilmiştir. Bu makalede Ömer Tarman’ın aile ve eğitim öğretim hayatı çeşitli yazılı kaynaklar kullanılarak ve oğlu Atilla Tarman ile yapılan röportajdan yararlanılarak incelenecektir.en_US
dc.description.abstractProfessor Doctor Ömer Tarman was born on April 23, 1898, in Çankırı, Turkey. He graduated from Bursa Ameliyat Ziraat High School. During his high school years, his practical intelligence and interest in agriculture was separating him from his pears.Thanks to his talent he obtained the chance to win a scholarship and to continue his education in Germany, one of the leading countries in agriculture field. After six years of education there, Ömer Tarman continued his studies in Turkey. He carried out studies that contributed to the forage crops, pasture and livestock sector in Turkey, pioneered the establishment of exemplary agricultural areas and the establishment of institutions related to agricultural education and research. He has become a respected researcher and teacher in his field with his contributions and experience in the field of agriculture, especially in Turkey. For his achievements Prof. Dr. Ömer Tarman was awarded the 1st class Badge of Merit by the Federal German President. In this article, Ömer Tarman’s family and academic works throughout his life will be examined using various written sources and with the help of an interview conducted with Ömer Tarman’s son Atilla Tarman.en_US
