dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.en_US

dc.description.abstractVI. yüzyılda inşa edilmiş ve birçok restorasyon geçirmiş olan Ayasofya bugüne kadar hem kilise hem de camii görevi görmüş olup, günümüzde ise müze olarak kullanılmaktadır. Zamanın ve birtakım dış etkenlerin yanı sıra, depremler, hava şartları ve çok fazla sayıda ziyaretçisi olması Ayasofya’yı zamanla yıpratmıştır. Bu sebeplerden ötürü Ayasofya’nın sürekli olarak uzman gözetiminde tutulması ve bakımının sağlanması, yapının korunması açısından büyük önem teşkil etmektedir. Bu araştırmada, yıpranmalar sonucu Ayasofya’nın birçok kez geçirmiş olduğu restorasyonlar üzerinde durulmuştur.en_US
dc.description.abstractConstructed as a church in 6th century and been through various restoration processes, Hagia Sophia had been used as a church and a mosque and now it functions as a museum. Hagia Sophia is damaged by earthquakes, weather and numerous visitors other than the effects of passing time and outer factors. For such reasons Hagia Sophia has always been under controle and care of experts which holds the importance for the survival of the structure. This research paper is mainly based on the Hagia Sophia’s re-construction processes.en_US
