Item Open Access A historical and semantical study of Turkmens and Turkmen tribes(2008) Özalp, F. EsinThis work traces the history and the tribal organization of the Turkmen tribes of today’s Turkmenistan. The study covers the period from the beginning of the tenth century up until the Russian conquest of the nineteenth century with a special emphasis given to the very early history of the Oghuz, the early Seljuk Turkmens and lastly the Turkmens under Uzbek Khanates and Persian rule. The aim is to find out how Turkmen tribes, tribal confederations and clans had taken their contemporary shape. Considering the role they played in history, the Oghuz, the forefathers of the Turkmens, enjoy great importance among the various branches of the Turkish people. Thus, in order to accomplish a comprehensive study of the Turkmen people within Turkistan, this work begins with detailed information about the etymology of the word “Turkmen,” the names of the Turkmen tribes, and their structure by relying on the valuable works of the leading ancient scholars. Throughout centuries, the territory which is known to be the Turkmen land witnessed several conquerors; the Oghuz, Seljuks, Mongols, Timurids, Shaybanids, Uzbek Khanates and finally the Russians. By examining these troublesome periods in particular, this work aims to analyze the Turkmen people’s struggle against the Khivan, Persian and Russian dominance, and their tribal structure prior to the Russian conquest.Item Open Access The Iraq conflict and its security implications for Turkey (2003-2007)(2007) Türken, AnılThis thesis evaluates the security threats posed to Turkey after the March 2003 invasion of Iraq. The newly emerging federal, democratic Iraqi state and its political, economic and ethnic make up is analyzed in detail in order to demonstrate the threats it may pose to Turkish national security. The thesis looks at the links between the terrorist organization the PKK and the Kurdish Regional Government in Iraq, as well as outlining mistakes of Turkish foreign policy in the region that have led to the current impasse. The Turkmen minority in Iraq, the status of Kirkuk and other disputed territories, as well as Iraqi and Kurdish legislation on Iraq’s energy resources are also analyzed. This thesis aims to draw a roadmap for Turkish foreign policy in the region that would avoid past mistakes and address security concerns for the future, while guaranteeing Iraq’s territorial integrity.Item Open Access Musical structure analysis, conducting and interpretation guide to Halmammedov Symphony No.1(2020-12) Rahmedov, RustamThis thesis provides musical structure analysis and conductorial guidance on the performance and interpretation of Nury Halmammedov’s Symphony No.1. The methodology follows deconstruction of the work from macro structures of form and tonal landscapes to microstructures of phrase and musical figures. Textures of the musical language structure are taken apart to reveal dynamic, rhythmic and tonal layering with proofs obtained from the orchestration. The relation of the composer’s musical language with that of traditional Turkmen music is held in focus. Musical context analysis is extended through an insight on the interpretory psychological elements of the work. Guidence on the interpretation of the work from a conductor’s approach is reached through this analysis and definite instructions on conductorial grammer, gestural posture and expressive gestures are offered for each section making up the complete work.Item Open Access The original Turkish concerns about developments in Northern Iraq(2008) Choi, KwagnsooAfter the invasion of Iraq by the U.S., Iraq is undergoing significant transition that no one can predict the future perfectly. Such changes in Iraq will lead to the increasing concerns from neighboring countries including Turkey, Iran, and Arab states. Especially, there are historical, demographical, political and geostrategic contexts of Turkey‟s longstanding interests in the developments taking place in Iraq; treaties between Turkey and British related to Mosul that goes back to the 1920s, close cultural ties with Turkmen or Iraqi Turk who has lived in mostly northern Iraq, the direct threat of PKK who has stationed in northern Iraq to Turkey and an increased instability of security structure in Middle East. This thesis aims to elaborate the original Turkish concerns of developments in northern Iraq with political, demographical, political and geo-strategic dimensions by taking facts into considerations. Also, in accordance with the assessment of Turkish foreign policy about northern Iraq in particular since 1990s, it attempts to understand Turkish policies about northern Iraq.
