Computational situation theory with baby-sit

Language is an integral part of our everyday experience and encompasses situated activities such as talking, listening, reading, and writing. These activities are situated because they occur in situations and they are about situations. Their primary function, on the other hand, is to convey information. With this vision, situation theory has been developed over the last decade or so and various versions of the theory have been applied to a number of linguistic issues. However, not much work has been done in regard to its computational aspects. Existing approaches towards 'computational situation theory' incorporate only some of the original features of situation theory and hence show conceptual and philosophical divergence from its ontology. This thesis presents a computational account of situation theory that embodies the essentials of the theory and adopts its ontological features. A medium (called BABY-SIT) which is based on the proposed computational foundation is described and its constructs are formally defined. The features of BABY-SIT are compared to those of the existing approaches. In order to demonstrate the appropriateness of BABY-SIT, some examples from the domain of artifical intelligence are given. Resolution of pronominal anaphora in Turkish , which has been chosen as a linguistic test-bed for BABY-SIT, is also demonstrated.

Inheriting war in Thucydides

This article argues that Thucydides represents the story of the Eurypontid Spartan kings, Archidamus and Agis, as a coherent, meaningful narrative spanning his text. Early on, Archidamus worries that his generation might leave war to their children as a kind of inheritance. His son Agis then does inherit the war, more literally than any other figure. The consequences of this malign bequest become clear as Agis comes to violate the traditional value system represented by his father. Formal naming of both men throughout their stories encourages the reader to view their appearances not as a series of isolated events but as a single narrative depicting the corruption of their family.

Kripto varlıkların medeni hukuk bağlamında incelenmesi

Günümüzde gelişen teknoloji hayatın her alanını etkilemektedir. Bu gelişen teknolojilerden biri de kripto varlıklardır. Kripto varlıklar merkeziyetsiz ve anonim yapılarıyla dikkat çekmekte ve yaygın bir şekilde kullanılmaktadır. Kripto varlıkların bu kadar yaygın kullanılması, hukuk dünyasını da etkilemektedir. Kripto varlıklar son yıllarda hem hukuk hem de ceza davalarına konu olmaya başlamıştır. Bu durum da kripto varlıkların hukuki durumunu belirlemeyi gerekli kılmıştır. Çalışmamızda öncelikle kripto varlıklar hakkında bilgi verilecek ve daha sonrasında dünyada ve ülkemizdeki düzenlemelere değinilecektir. Üçüncü bölümde kripto varlıkların hukuki niteliğinden bahsedilecektir. Dördüncü bölümde borçlar hukuku bağlamında bir inceleme yapılacaktır. Beşinci bölümde aile hukuku çerçevesinde kripto varlıklar incelendikten sonra son bölümde kripto varlıkların mirasçıya intikali konusundan bahsedilecektir. Önümüzdeki yıllardaki kripto varlıkların çok daha yaygın olarak kullanılacağı göz önünde tutulduğunda kripto varlıkların hukuk dünyasında da daha çok davaya konu olacağı açıktır. Bu yüzden de şimdiden ileride açılacak davalar için uygulamaya yol göstermek amacıyla kripto varlıkların medeni hukuk bağlamında hukuki niteliğinin aydınlatılması gerekmektedir.
