Item Open Access Drug delivery system based on cyclodextrin-naproxen inclusion complex incorporated in electrospun polycaprolactone nanofibers(Elsevier, 2014) Canbolat, M. F.; Celebioglu A.; Uyar, TamerIn this study, we select naproxen (NAP) as a reference drug and electrospun poly (e-caprolactone) (PCL) nanofibers as a fibrous matrix for our drug-delivery system. NAP was complexed with beta-cyclodextrin (βCD) to form inclusion complex (NAP-βCD-IC) and then NAP-βCD-IC was incorporated into PCL nanofibers via electrospinning. The incorporation of NAP without CD-IC into electrospun PCL was also carried out for a comparative study. Our aim is to analyze the release profiles of NAP from PCL/NAP and PCL/NAP-βCD-IC nanofibers and we investigate the effect of CD-IC on the release behavior of NAP from the nanofibrous PCL matrix. The characterization of NAP-βCD-IC and the presence of CD-IC in PCL/NAP-βCD-IC nanofibers were studied by FTIR, XRD, TGA, NMR and SEM. The SEM imaging of the electrospun PCL/NAP and PCL/NAP-βCD-IC nanofibers reveal that the average fiber diameter of these nanofibers is around 300. nm, in addition, the aggregates of CD-IC in PCL/NAP-βCD-IC nanofibers is observed. The release study of NAP in buffer solution elucidate that the PCL/NAP-βCD-IC nanofibers have higher release amount of NAP than the PCL/NAP nanofibers due to the solubility enhancement of NAP by CD-IC.Item Open Access Exact analysis of single-wavelength optical buffers with feedback markov fluid queues(Optical Society of America, 2009-10-15) Kankaya H. E.; Akar, N.Optical buffering via fiber delay lines is used for contention resolution in optical packet and optical burst switching nodes. This article addresses the problem of exactly finding the blocking probabilities in an asynchronous single-wavelength optical buffer. Packet lengths are assumed to be variable and modeled by phase-type distributions, whereas the packet arrival process is modeled by a Markovian arrival process that can capture autocorrelations in interarrival times. The exact solution is based on the theory of feedback fluid queues for which we propose numerically efficient and stable algorithms. We not only find the packet blocking probabilities but also the entire distribution of the unfinished work in this system from which all performance measures of interest can be derived.Item Open Access The line balancing algorithm for optimal buffer allocation in production lines(2002) Selvi, ÖmerBuffer allocation is a challenging design problem in serial production lines that is often faced in the industry. Effective use of buffers (i.e. how much buffer storage to allow and where to place it) in production lines is important since buffers can have a great impact on the efficiency of the production line. Buffers reduce the blocking of the upstream station and the starvation of the downstream station. However, buffer storage is expensive both due to its direct cost and the increase of the work-in-process inventories it causes. Thus, there is a trade-off between performance and cost. This means that the optimal buffer capacity and the allocation of this capacity have to be determined by analysis. In this thesis, we focus on the optimal buffer allocation problem. We try to maximize the throughput of the serial production line by allocating the total fixed number of buffer slots among the buffer locations and in order to achieve this aim we introduced a new heuristic algorithm called “Line Balancing Algorithm (LIBA)”applicable to all types of production lines meaning that there is no restriction for the distributions of processing, failure and repair times of any machine, the disciplines such as blocking, failure etc. and the assumptions during the application of LIBA in the line.
