Ajarian identity and the regime of Aslan Abashidze

This thesis analyzes the Autonomous Republic of Ajaria: the Ajarian people, their history, and the nature of the current administration under Aslan Abashidze. Emphasis is given to a historical consideration of the self identity of the Ajarians, within the wider comext of Georgian nationalism and national identity. The phenomenon of Aslan Abashidze's rule is treated at length, with special attention given to the relationship of the Abashidze regime with Russian border troops stationed within the republic. Abashidze's relations with the central government in Tbilisi, and with Turkey are also examined.

Türkiye'nin en köklü birliklerinden biri olan Fiskobirlik fabrikasında 1992 ile 1993 yılları arasında işveren ve işçiler arasında toplu sözleşme ile başlayan bir anlaşmazlık vardı. Bu anlaşmazlık daha sonrasında işçilerin greve gitmesi ile devam etti. İş verenler kadro hakkını iptal etmek, işçilerde kazanılmış kadro hakkını geri vermek istemiyordu. Fiskobirlik'te yapılan grev oylamasına işçiler %72 ile greve evet dediler ve Ankara'ya doğru olan yolculukları başladı. Yıllarını Fiskobirlik'e vermiş çalışanlarının neredeyse tamamının işten atılması söz konusu olmuş Öz Gıda-İş sendikası ve Fiskobirlik çalışanları bu haksızlığı reddederek hak arayışına girmiştir. Ezici bir çoğunluğu kadın olan işçiler Öz Gıda-İş sendikasının yadsınamaz yardımı ile 55 günü grevde 8 ay süren mücadeleyi kazandılar ve bu mücadele sonrasında işçilerin ortalama net ücretleri eski para ile 1 milyon 200 bin liradan 2 milyon 857 bin liraya yükseldi, 1253 işçiye kadro alındı ve bunun gibi işçinin lehine olan birçok hak kazandılar.

From paganism to piety: tracing the Christianization process in the southern Black Sea

This thesis examines the spread of Christianity in Bithynia and Pontus, a topic that remains a lacuna in the academic literature. Through a multi-dimensional survey that covers textual, hagiographical, epigraphic, and material evidence and engaging with the central debates in archaeology about the identification of religious identity through material remains and the patterns and mechanisms of Christianization, it provides a comprehensive account of the history of Bithynia and Pontus, which it traces in religious and secular texts from the pre- Constantinian period, and discusses specific epigraphic finds and archaeological sites in relation to its central theme as well as challenges related to the preservation and interpretation of evidence and avenues for future research. These findings help contribute the understanding of early Christian identity and its development in the Black Sea region as well as the broader debates on the archaeology of religion and the Christianization of the Asia Minor.

İnebolu Limanı ve tarihsel önemi

Yapımının neredeyse iki asır sürmesiyle tarihte sayılı örneklerden olan İnebolu Limanı’nın inşaatı ve bu süre boyunca içinde bulunmuş olduğu çeşitli tarihsel dönemlerin limanın yapımına olan etkileri bu makalede incelenmiştir. Kastamonu’nun İnebolu ilçesinde bulunan bu limanın tarihini konu alan bu çalışmada, limanın yapımına başlanma sebebine, inşaatı sırasında yaşanan zorluklara ve bu zorlukların sonuçlarına, aynı zamanda yıllar boyu İnebolu Limanı’nın çevresine olan etkilerine değinilmiştir. çalışma sırasında çeşitli tarihsel kaynaklardan, eski ve yeni gazete başlıklarından ve konu hakkında bilgi sahibi olan uzmanlardan ve makalelerinden faydalanılmıştır.

Security and military balance in the Black Sea region

This paper analyses the current security challenges and military balance in the Black Sea region. The region, which has been going through vast political and economic transformations since the end of the Cold War, has become a platform for great power rivalry in the last few years. NATO expansion and Russian resistance to it, combined with the existing protracted conflicts, resulted in the first major regional war in a decade. The Russia-Georgia war of 2008 proved that regional actors still perceive the use of force as an acceptable tool of foreign policy. The changing military balance and abrupt increases in military expenditure from some actors suggest that the likelihood of other interstate conflicts in the region is high. Providing security and stability in the Black Sea seems more difficult than the pre-August 2008 war period.
