dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.en_US

dc.description.abstractTurizm, II. Dünya Savaşı’ndan sonra dünya genelinde rağbet gören bir endüstri olmaya başlar. 1950’li yıllarda Akdeniz kıyılarında artış gösteren turistik tesisler, 1960’lı yıllardaki Türkiye Cumhuriyeti hükûmetinin gözüne çarpar. 1960’larda Türkiye’de faaliyete geçen yeni turizm bakanlıkları ve kuruluşları, Robert Trigano’nun sahibi olduğu Club Méditerranée turizm şirketinin Ege Denizi kıyısında bir tesis kurma teklifine olumlu gözle bakar ve çalışmalara başlanır. Çeşitli müzakereler ve karşılıklı atılan adımlar sonucu nihai karar, tatil köyünün İzmir’in Foça ilçesine kurulması yönündedir. 1967 yılında faaliyetine başlayan Club Med Foça’ya başta Fransa olmak üzere, değişik milletlerden turistler gelmeye başlamıştır. Tatil köyünün ve turistlerin Foça’ya sağladığı hareketlilik, ilçeyi pek çok farklı yönden etkilemiştir. Faal olduğu dönemde Foça’yı ekonomik, turistik, kültürel ve toplumsal yönlerden etkileyen Club Med, bölgenin kaderini değiştirmiştir. Bu çalışmada Club Med’in tarihçesi, Foça’ya kuruluş süreci, Club Med öncesi Türk turizmi ve Foça, Club Med’in Foça’ya etkileri ve kapanış sürecindeki olaylar ele alınmıştır.en_US
dc.description.abstractThe popularity of tourism increases immensely after World War II. In the 1960s, the Turkish Republic's government notices the impact of the worldwide tourism, especially those located in the Mediterranean.Region. In the 1960s, The Turkish Republic institutions and organizations lean toward the project proposals of Club Méditerranée that offers to build tourist facilities in different regions of Turkey, and the government starts working on the details of the projects. Club Méditerranée and the Turkish Government agree on building the first tourist facility in Foça, İzmir. Many tourists from different nations, but especially from France, visit Club Med Foça. This touristic movement within Club Med Foça has significant impacts on the town of Foça, some of which are economic, touristic, cultural, social, etc. This paper aims to investigate tourism in Foca before and after Club Med, the impacts of Club Med Foça, and the brief history of Club Med.en_US
