dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.en_US

dc.description.abstractÇalışmamızda, toplumdaki cinsiyet eşitsizliği göz önünde bulundurularak Türkiye’de 1990- 2000 yılları arasında kadınların üniversite eğitimi ve akademik yaşamda yaşadığı zorluklar incelenmiştir. Türkiye ve Avrupa’da cinsiyet eşitliği düşüncesinin nasıl yayıldığına, birinci ve ikinci dalga feminizmin tanımı ve nasıl ortaya çıktığına değinilmiştir. Bu inceleme yapılırken Türkiye Cumhuriyeti’nin hukuki temellerinin inşa edilmesinde başlıca rol alan Ankara Üniversitesi Hukuk Fakültesi’nde 90’lı yıllarda görev yapan bir akademisyeni olan Prof. Dr. Özlem Söğütlü’nün kişisel tecrübelerinden yararlanılmıştır. 90’lı yıllarda kurulan vakıflardan, kadın hareketleri sonucunda gerçekleştirilen protestolardan, türbanlı kadınlara yapılan ayrımcılıklardan ve Medeni Kanun’da cinsiyet eşitliği ile ilgili yapılan düzenlemelerden bahsedilmiştir. Ayrıca Ankara Üniversitesi’nin kurduğu KASAUM’a da değinilmiştir.en_US
dc.description.abstractIn this paper, the difficulties experienced by women in university education and academic life in Turkey during 1990-2000 were examined, taking into account the gender inequality in society. It has been mentioned how the idea of gender equality spread in Turkey and Europe, the definition of first and second wave feminism and how it emerged. While conducting this study, benefitted from personal experience of Prof. Dr. Özlem Söğütlü who worked in the ’90s at Ankara University Faculty of Law, where played a major role in the construction of the legal foundations of the Republic of Turkey. In addition, the foundations established in the 90s, protests carried out as a result of women's movements, discrimination against women in turbans and a number of regulations made in the Civil Code related to gender equality were mentioned in this paper. Furthermore, KASAUM, which was founded by Ankara University, was mentioned.en_US
