dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.en_US

dc.description.abstract1980 sonrası küreselleşen dünya ve Türkiye'de yaşanan toplumsal ve siyasi olaylar toplumu ve müzik endüstrisini etkilemiştir. Bu bağlamda Türkiye’de yeni yeni ortaya çıkmaya başlayan metal müzik, bu olaylardan etkilenmiş ve bu siyasi ve toplumsal olaylar dönemin metal gruplarının müzikal yaşantılarına yansımıştır. Bu süreçte yaşanan her bir olaydan etkilenen ve bu etkilerin dönütünü şarkılarıyla yansıtmaya çalışan Türk metal grupları Türkiye’deki ve dünyadaki çeşitli toplumsal ve siyasi olayları şarkılarında anlatmaya çalışmıştır. Bu araştırmada Dr. Skull, Metalium ve Radical Noise gibi gruplarla bizzat yapılan röportajlardan, dönemin gazete haberlerinden, metal müziğe karşı duyulan ön yargılardan ve baskı ortamından, sosyolojik ve siyasi etmenlerin metal müziğe olan etkisinden bahsedilmektedir.en_US
dc.description.abstractThe globalizing world after 1980 and the social and political events in Turkey have affected society and the music industry. In this context, metal music, which had just begun to emerge in Turkey, was affected by these events, and these political and social events were reflected in the musical lives of metal bands of the period. Influenced by every single event experienced in this process and trying to reflect the feedback of these effects with their songs, Turkish metal bands tried to explain various social and political events not only in Turkey but also globally through their songs. This particular research includes interviews with bands such as Dr. Skull, Metalium, and Radical Noise, newspaper reports of the period, and the prejudices and oppression felt against metal music. The impact of sociological and political factors on metal music is observed.en_US
