dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST209) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.en_US

Elias Riggs, ABCFM misyoneri olmuş ve hayatının büyük bir kısmını Osmanlı Devleti’nde geçirmiştir. Bu süre zarfında, Osmanlı yönetimi altında yaşayan azınlıklar onun basıma, dini aktivitelere, birçok kitabın çevirisine, özellikle İncilin Bulgarcaya çevirisine ve eğitime olan katkılarından etkilenmiştir. Onun yaptığı hizmetlerin sonuçları ayrıntılı olarak ele alınacaktır.en_US
dc.description.abstractThis paper examines the relationship between Elias Riggs’s services and Bulgarian national revival. Riggs was a missionary of the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions and spent most of his life in the Ottoman Empire. During his times, minorities were affected by his works. His contribution included printings, religious activities, and translation of religious books into Bulgarian and amendment of education in terms of the establishment of the schools like Robert College. The consequences of his services will be discussed in detail.en_US
