dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.en_US

dc.description.abstractOsmanlı Devleti’nin batılılaşma sürecine girmesiyle birlikte diğer tüm sanat dalları gibi resimde de bir değişim başlamış ve Avrupa’ya eğitim amacıyla gönderilen öğrencilerin dönüşüyle birlikte Türkiye’deki resim sanatı anlayışının temelleri atılmıştır. Batılı tarzda resim akımlarından Türkiye’de ilk uygulanan akımlardan biri Empresyonizm olsa da, 1940’lı yıllar itibariyle farklı sanat grupları dışavurumculuk gibi yeni akımları da eserlerinde yansıtmaya başlamıştır. Dışavurumculuk, Almanya’da, Empresyonizm ve Natüralizm akımlarına tepki olarak doğmuş ve doğduğu dönemde Almanya’daki sosyal buhrana bir tepki niteliği taşımıştır. Akıma Fransız ve İtalyan sanat grupları da destek çıkmış ve yayılımının hızlanmasında etkili olmuşlardır. Türkiye’de D Grubu adı altında toplanan sanatçıların eserleriyle birlikte ses duyurmaya başladığı söylenebilir. Akım, Türkiye’de ve dünyada 1940-1950 yılları arasında soyut dışavurumculuk halini almış, 1980’li yılların başında da yeni dışavurumculuk olarak yeniden bir değişim geçirmiştir.en_US
dc.description.abstractAs the Ottoman Empire started the process of westernization along with the rest of the art, the art of painting underwent a significant shift in the empire. As the students of the empire studying abroad returned, the first stones of Turkey's painting foundation were laid. While the first Western painting style was Impressionism, after the 1940s, other schools of thought, such as Expressionism, found their place on the canvas. Expressionism originated from the German heartlands in opposition to Impressionism and Naturalism. It was, in a sense, a rebellion against the economic regression apparent in German-speaking nations. Later the French and Italian artists embraced the movement, aiding its rapid spread. In Turkey, the movement was spearheaded by a group called the "D Grubu." The movement has transformed into Abstract Expressionism in Turkey and the wider world between the years 1940-50s. In the early 1980s, it was morphed once again under Neo-expressionism.en_US
