dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.en_US

dc.description.abstractMuhsin Batur, çeşitli tarihi olaylarda yer almış Türk asker ve aynı zaman da siyasetçidir. Muhsin Batur 1949 yılında harp akademisini bitirdikten sonra, birçok farklı karargahta görev aldı ve daha sonrasında Napoli’deki NATO karargahında çalıştı. Adını tarihe yazdıran önemli olaylardan ilki 60 İhtilali’nde Adnan Menderes’i tutuklayarak Ankara’ya götürmesiydi. Bu olaydan sonra hızlıca yükselmesiyle birlikte 1969 yılında Orgeneral’lik rütbesine yükselmesiyle beraber Hava Kuvvetleri Komutanı oldu. Daha sonra 12 Mart 1971 tarihinde Hava Kuvvetleri Komutanı Batur, diğer kuvvet komutanları ve Genelkurmay Başkanı Memduh Tağmaç ile birlikte dönemin Cumhurbaşkanı Cevdet Sunay’a bir muhtıra vererek hükümetin istifasına yol açmasıyla birlikte adını Türkiye tarihine yazdırdı. 1973 tarihinde askeri hayatını sonlandırdıktan sonra senatör olarak meclise girdi. Daha sonra Cumhuriyet Halk Partisi’ne geçti ve 1980'de bu partiden cumhurbaşkanı adayı gösterildi fakat seçilemedi.en_US
dc.description.abstractMuhsin Batur is a Turkish soldier and politician who has taken part in various historical events. After graduating the Aviation Academy in 1949, Muhsin Batur served in various air units and headquarters and at NATO headquarters in Naples. On May March 27, 1960, he arrested Adnan Menderes and took him to Ankara. After that, his military career accelerated and become the Commander of Airfoce and four star general in 1969. Then, in March 12, 1971, Air Force Commander Muhsin Batur, along with the signature of him and three other commanders, gave a memorandum to President Cevdet Sunay and played a very influential role in the military intervention to end his rule over the state. Additionally, after his retirement at 1973, he switched to the Republican People's party as a senator and then ran for president from that party in 1980 but he did not win the elections.en_US
