dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.en_US

dc.description.abstractSpor denilince ilk akla gelen branşlardan olan güreş, özellikle Türk toplumu ve kültürü nezdinde önemli bir yere sahiptir. Genel tarih kabulüne göre Türklerin atası olan Hunlardan günümüze güreş, Türk milleti için her zaman ayrı bir yere sahip olmuş, düğünlerin, eğlencelerin, toyların vs. hep bir parçası olmuştur. Türkiye Cumhuriyeti’nin kurucusu Mustafa Kemal Atatürk’ün spora özellikle de Türklerin ata sporu olan güreşe verdiği önem hep ön planda olmuştur. Güreşin kültürel yönlerinin dışında toplum nezdinde, ekonomik, siyasi ve sosyal açıdan da etkileri bulunmaktadır. Ayrıca, genel olarak spor, medya ve yayın araçları için önemli bir gelir oluşturmaktadır. Fakat bu spor unsurlarının büyük çoğunluğunu futbol maçları ve ona bağlı spor programları oluşturmasından dolayı güreş geri planda kalmıştır. Türk güreşinin önemli isimlerinden Ahmet Ak, Cumhuriyetin yetiştirdiği önemli bir figür olmuştur. Adını dolayısıyla da Türkiye Cumhuriyeti’ni güreş tarihine yazdıran Ak, gerek profesyonel sporculuğuyla gerek de yetiştirdiği öğrenciler ile Türk güreşine ve sporuna büyük katkı sağlamıştır.en_US
dc.description.abstractWrestling is one of the most famous sports branches all around the world. Especially in Turkish Culture, wrestling has a special place for Turkish people. Since Huns, who are the ancestors of Turkic people, wrestling has been an important tool in weddings, meetings, and entertainment. Especially Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, founder of the modern Turkish Republic, paid more attention to Turkish traditional sports. Especially his words and applications on wrestling proves that he paid attention to that. Besides the cultural sides of wrestling. It has economic, political and social sides that affect the society. In the traditional media, mostly football takes place. The favoritism against wrestling and other branches affects these branches and causes them to lose their importance and popularity. Ahmet Ak, one of the successful wrestlers in Turkey, is an important figure in Turkish wrestling. He represented himself and his country for years in the world. After his professional career, he has taught students and served his country.en_US
