dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.

dc.description.abstractDr. Necdet Özgelen, Erken Cumhuriyet Dönemi'nde yetişmiş, Hüseyin Nihâl Atsız gibi zamanın önde gelen Türkçü-Turancı düşünürleriyle yakın münasebetlerde bulunmuş, literatüre 1944 Irkçılık-Turanclılık Davası olarak geçen önemli hadiseyi yaşamış ve aynı zamanda Kut'ül-Amâre kahramanı Halil Kut Paşa'nın manevi oğlu olan bir isimdir. Bu çalışmada Necdet Özgelen'in tanık olduğu önemli olaylar, onlara dair ışık tutabilecek anlatıları beraberinde, kişisel gelişiminde etkili kimselerle ilgili tecrübeleri işlenmiş, böylece Cumhuriyet'in yetiştirdiği ilk nesillerden olan Özgelen'in hayat hikâyesinin ana hatlarının aktarılması hedeflenmiştir.
dc.description.abstractDr. Necdet Özgelen grew up in the early republican era in Turkey. He engaged with some prominent supporters of Pan-Turkism-Turanism ideology including Nihal Atsız and witnessed the Racism-Turanism Case in 1944. He, also, is the godchild of the Halil Pasha who was one of the commanders of Siege of Kut Al Amara. In this Article, the important incidents which Mr. Ozgelen experienced along with his own enlightening narratives and his relations with the ones who have impacts on his personal development are covered. Thus, it is aimed to highlight Mr. Ozgelen's biography who belongs in the first generations lived in Republic Of Turkey.
