dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.en_US

dc.description.abstractYahudi-Roma savaşları sırasında İspanya topraklarında varlıklarını sürdüren Yahudiler, 15. yüzyılın sonlarına doğru zorlu bir göç sürecine başlamışlardır. Elhamra kararnamesi ile dünyanın çeşitli yerlerine göç etmek zorunda kalan Sefarad Yahudileri, göç ettikleri Osmanlı topraklarında birçok ayrımcılığa maruz kalmıştır. İspanya’dan bu topraklara göç etmek zorunda kalan Yahudilerin karşı karşıya kaldıkları sorunlar bu zorlu sürecin en önemli somut kanıtlarındandır. Kaçar ailesi de bu dönemi yakından yaşamış, İspanya’dan Türkiye’ye göç etmek zorunda kalmıştır. Bu çalışmada Kaçar ailesinin İstanbul Balat’taki yaşantılarını, geçirdikleri zor süreçleri, devletin onlara karşı tutumlarını ve zaman ilerledikçe Türkiye’deki uyum süreçlerinin nasıl olduğunu ve bu göç hikayesinin gelecek nesillere etkisi anlatılmıştır.en_US
dc.description.abstractThe Jews, who continued their existence in Spain during the Jewish-Roman wars, started a difficult immigration process towards the end of the 15th century. Sephardic Jews, who had to migrate to various parts of the world with the Alhambra decree, were subjected to discrimination in the Ottoman lands they migrated to. The problems faced by the Jews who had to migrate from Spain to these lands are one of the most important concrete evidences of this difficult process. Kaçar family who lived in this period, was forced to emigrate from Spain to Turkey. In this study, the Kaçar family’s life in Balat, the difficulties they faced, the state’s attitude against them, their harmonization process and the impact of this migration story on the future generations is indicated.en_US
