dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.en_US

dc.description.abstract96’lar Apartmanı Mimar Mehmet Arman Güran tarafından 1962 yılında Ankara Kolej’de inşa edilmiş bir apartmandır. İsmini planında 96 daire barındırmasından alan yapı, Ankara’nın İkinci Dünya Savaşı sonrası hızlı nüfus artışına ve şehirde yeni oluşmaya başlamış orta sınıfın barınma ihtiyacına yönelik tasarlanmış bir kooperatifçilik projesidir. Mimarisi, yapıldığı yıllarda dünyada etki göstermeye başlamış Le Corbusier yaklaşımının bir örneğidir. Ankara’nın değişen sosyokültürel yapısına uyum sağlayarak üç farklı aile için dört farklı daire tipi barındıran apartman, dikey değil yatay planlanması ve site yerine tek bloktan oluşmasıyla da kendine has modern bir mimariye sahiptir. Kızılay ve çevresinde yeni yeni inşa edilmiş kamu kuruluşlarının ortaya çıkardığı memur kesimin barınma ihtiyacına modern bir çözüm olmuştur. Şehrin öne çıkan tarihi yapıları arasında yer alan bu apartmanın Ankara’nın kentsel dönüşümünde özel bir yeri vardır. Kolej mahalle kültürü üzerinde de etkisi bulunurken yapıldığı yıldan beri birçok sakininin hayatında unutulmaz izler bırakmıştır. Hala kullanılmakta olan 96’lar Apartmanı, başkentin kuruluşu sırasındaki sosyokültürel, sosyoekonomik ve mimari değişiminin tanığıdır.en_US
dc.description.abstract96’lar Apartmanı is an apartment complex that was built in 1962 by the Architect Mehmet Arman Güran in Ankara, Kolej. It takes the name of its 96 flats. It was a project of cooperation designed for Ankara’s rapid increase in population after World War Two and the newly formed middle class’ need for sheltering. Its architecture is an example of Le Corbusier style which was beginning to be applied around the world at the time. The building consists of three different flat types for four different family types, adapting Ankara’s changing sociocultural structure. It’s architecture is unique since it was planned horizontally instead of vertically and it is one block instead of a housing estate with separate buildings. It was a modern sheltering solution for the government employees who were working at the public institutions that were built mostly in Kızılay district. The building, which is one of the prominent historical buildings of the city, has a significant place in Ankara’s urban transformation process. It has an influence on Kolej’s neighborhood culture and it leaves a remarkable mark in its resident’s lives. It was a witness of the capital city’s sociocultural, socioeconomic, and architectural transformation during its establishment and it is still in use.en_US
