dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.

dc.description.abstractAhmet Hamdi Başar, 1893 yılında İstanbul'da doğmuştur. Üniversite yıllarından itibaren ekonomiye ilgisi olmuştur. Osmanlı Devleti'nin son yıllarını ve I. Dünya Savaşının sonuçlarına tanıklık etmesi onun hem siyasi hem de iktisadi görüşlerinin oluşmasında önemli bir yere sahiptir. Türkiye Cumhuriyeti'nin kuruluş yıllarından itibaren inandığı ekonomi politikasını savunmaktan vazgeçmemiş ve her fırsatta fikirlerini kaleme almıştır. İçinde bulunduğu kurumlar ile görüş ayrılığına düştüğü durumlarda kurumlardan ya uzaklaştırılmış ya da kendi rızasıyla ayrılmıştır. Kendi görüşlerini özgürce dile getirebileceği, başyazarlığını yaptığı Barış Dünyası dergisini 1944 yılında kurmuştur. Birlikte çalıştığı yazarlar ile birlikte siyaset, ekonomi gibi alanlarda görüşlerini yazdığı dergide sosyal konulardan da bahsetmiştir. Çıkarıldıktan 5 ay sonra İstanbul Sıkıyönetim Komutanlığı tarafından kapatılan dergi, 1962'de yeniden yayımlanmaya başlamış ve 1971 yılında Başar'ın ölümüne kadar yayımlanmaya devam etmiştir.
dc.description.abstractAhmet Hamdi Başar was born in 1893 in Istanbul. He was interested in economics since his college years. Having been influenced by the consequences of latest decays of Ottoman Empire and World War I, he formed his ideas towards both economics and politics. Ever since the foundation of Republic of Turkey, he defended his ideas on economic policies and wrote down these ideas in every opportunity he had. Due to the contradiction with the institutions that he was within, either he was suspended or resigned by his own will from these institutions. Having gave voice to his ideas, he published Barış Dünyası journal that he was the editor of the journal in 1944. He mainly wrote about the politics and economics as well as social abstracts with other writers. After 5 months since the journal had been published, it was closed by the Istanbul Martial Law Command. Having been republished in 1962, the journal continued to procure until Başar's death in 1971.
