dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.

dc.description.abstractSendikalar, çeşitli alanlarda çalışan emekçilerin sosyal ve ekonomik çıkarlarını korumak için işçiler tarafından kurulmuştur. İşçi sınıfının sorunlarını çözmeyi hedefleyen sendikalar, devlet, siyasi parti ve iktidar örgütlenmelerinden bağımsız olarak örgütlenmişlerdir. Dünyanın birçok ülkesinde olduğu gibi ülkemizde de kurulan sendikalar 12 Eylül 1980 Askeri Darbesi ile kapatılmıştır. Buna karşı eğitim çalışanları örgütlenme mücadelelerini ısrarla sürdürmüşler yasal boşluklardan ve uluslararası sözleşmelerden yararlanarak sendikalarını kurmuşlardır. Eğitim emekçilerinin örgütlenme mücadelesinde Eğitim-Sen ve öncülleri başı çekmiş ve birçok sorunla karşılaşmıştır. Kararlı mücadelelerinin sonucunda eğitim emekçileri sendikalarını kurmuşlar ve demokratik, toplumsal ve ekonomik sorunların çözümünde örgütlü olarak mücadelelerine kaldıkları yerden devam etmişlerdir. Ayrıca, Eğitim-Sen kadın haklarına ve kadınların eğitim ve bilim meslek kollarındaki haklarını aramalarında da büyük mücadeleler vermiştir.
dc.description.abstractTrade unions were created organized by workers to protect the social and economic interests of workers and employees working in various fields. The unions, which aimed to solve the problems of the workers and laborers, were organized independently from the state, political party and power organizations. Trade unions established in many countries as well as in Turkey, have gone through several processes until it obtains the basic trade union rights in Turkey. This process became more difficult with the September 12, 1980 military coup. Educators, teachers and science workers, who are the main occupational branches of all these processes, continued their union struggles. Eğitim ve Bilim Emekçileri Sendikası (Eğitim-Sen) been a foundation trade union in Turkey to protect the rights of the teachers and science workers. Eğitim-Sen has tried to protect the rights of teachers and science workers during and after the establishment. Eğitim-Sen, through its connection with the public, defended the rights of the laborers of education and science in the sense of public rights and tried to solve the problems that occurred. In addition, Eğitim-Sen fought for women's rights and women's rights in the fields of education and science.
