dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.en_US

dc.description.abstractAnkara Büyükşehir Kent Orkestrası 1985 yılında kurulmuştur. 1965 yılında belediyede bando mantığıyla başlayan çalışmalar 1985 yılında orkestra anlayışına dönüştürülmüştür. Provalar, Ankara Gençlik Parkı’nda bulunan orkestra binasında beklenmeyen durumlar haricinde düzenli bir şekilde yürütülmüştür. Kent orkestrası olmasından dolayı geniş bir repertuvara sahiptir. Ayrıca, orkestra yurt içi ve yurt dışı konserleri başta olmak üzere birçok etkinlik düzenlemiş ve bu sayede halkla yakın ilişki kurmuştur. 1985-1990 yılları arasında kadroya alımlar sınavla olurken 90 sonrasında sözleşmeli alımlar yapılmıştır. Buna bağlı olarak düşen maaşlar sanatçıları olumsuz etkilemiştir. Son olarak, orkestranın siyasi bir kurum olan belediyeye bağlı olması, yeni gelen yönetimin kendi değişikliklerini yapması ve sanatçıların memur sıfatı taşımaları gibi olumsuz sonuçlar doğurmuştur.en_US
dc.description.abstractAnkara Metropolitan City Orchestra was established in 1985. The works which started as a brass band in the municipality in 1965 evolved into an orchestra concept in 1985. Rehearsals were held regularly, unless there was an unexpected situation, in the orchestra building which takes place in Ankara Youth Park. They have a wide repertoire since they are a metropolitan city orchestra. Addition to these, the orchestra has arranged many domestic and international concerts, along with the variety of events and they created close interaction with the public throughout these events. While the recruitments were done by exam in 1985-1990, contractual recruitment were done after 1990. Consequently, decreasing wages affected the artists negatively. Lastly, Finally, the affiliation of the orchestra to the municipality, which is a political institution, has resulted in negative consequences such as the new administration making its own changes and the artists having the title of civil servant.en_US
