dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.

dc.description.abstractBu çalışmada Alman medyasının 1934 yılında Türkiye'nin Trakya bölgesinde gerçekleşen birçok Yahudi vatandaşı alakadar olaylar ile ilgisini ve önemi üzerinde durulmuştur. Bu olaylar birçok Yahudi vatandaşı evlerini terk etmeye ve genellikle İsrail'e göç etmeye zorlamıştır. Bu çalışma bu olaylar sırasında yaşanan Yahudi karşıtı davranışlar ile Alman medyasının Türk medyası üzerindeki etkisinin bir alakası olup olmadığını tartışacaktır. Çalışma Trakya bölgesinin tarihine ve Yahudilerin Osmanlı İmparatorluğuna nasıl ve neden göç ettiklerine kısa bir şekilde değinerek başlayıp, ardından Cumhuriyete geçiş dönemi ve genç Türkiye Cumhuriyeti'nin erken yıllarına odaklanıyor. Çalışma o dönemde Türk medyasında Yahudi karşıtı bir tutum var mıydı ve varsa bu tutum Alman Medyasının etkilerinin bir sebebi olabilir mi sorusuna cevap vererek sonuçlanıyor.
dc.description.abstractThis study focuses on the connection and importance of German media on the events that are happened at 1934 on the Trace region of Turkey regarding many Jewish citizens. These events caused many Jewish citizens to abandon their old homes and migrate, mainly to Israel. This study will argue whether there is a connection between these event's anti-Semitic behaviour and German influence on the Turkish media or not. Study starts by briefly touching on the region of Trace's history and why and how Jewish people migrated to Ottoman Empire and then mainly focuses on the transition period and the early years of the then young Turkish Republic. Study concludes with whether there were anti-Semitic claims on the Turkish media at the time and if there was, can those claims can be attributed to German influence.
