dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.

dc.description.abstractUluslararası yardımlarda bulunan, doğal afetlerden sonra ihtiyaç sahiplerine yardımlarda bulunan Kızılay Kan Bankası'nın gönüllü hemşireleri Mavi Melekler, 1957 yılında oluştu ve günümüzde hala hizmet vermektedirler. Mavi Meleklerle birlikte Türkiye'de modern hemşireliğin temelleri atıldı. Mavi Melekler, Türkiye'nin sağlık personeli sıkıntısı çektiği bir dönemde, temel tıbbi eğitim aldılar ve gönüllü hemşirelik görevlerine başladılar. Aynı zamanda askeriyede de önemli rol oynayan Mavi Melekler, Türk Silahlı Kuvvetleri'nden de birçok kan bağışı aldılar ve böylece halkı da kan bağışı yapmaya teşvik ettiler. Bir gönüllülük projesinin ne kadar etkili olabileceğini gösterdiler.
dc.description.abstractThe Blue Angels (volunteer nurses operating under Turkish Red Crescent) were formed in 1957 and still serve to this day on issues such as; needs of blood, health services, internationally providing food and shelter and basic needs and post-disaster aid. The Blue Angels laid the foundation of modern nursing in Turkey. When Turkey was in trouble with the shortage of health staff in 1925, Blue Angels got basic health education and started to volunteer to nurse. At the same time, they played an important role in the military. They took blood donations from Turkish Armed Forces and encouraged the people for blood donations. Blue Angels showed effectiveness in the volunteering projects.
