| dc.description | The History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards. | |

| dc.description.abstract | Gökçen Koray, Türkiye’nin ilk kadın koro şefidir. 1948 yılında Bulgaristan’da dünyaya gelen ve müzik eğitimini de burada tamamlayan Koray, 1977 yılında ailesi ile birlikte Türkiye’ye göç etti. Türkiye’ye yerleşmesinin ardından çeşitli kurumlarda görev yaptı ve bunun beraberinde çeşitli korolar kurdu. Sanatçı koro müziğinin yanında opera ile de ilgilendi, çeşitli konserler verdi ve yarışmalara katıldı. Bu araştırmada Gökçen Koray’ın köklü bir geçmişe sahip olan Türk müziğine ve bunun bir uzantısı olarak Türk koro müziğinin gelişmesine ve yaygınlaşmasına olan katkıları incelenecektir. | |
| dc.description.abstract | Gökçen Koray is the first female conductor from Turkey. Koray was born in 1948 in Bulgaria, at which she completed her education in music before immigrating to Turkey with her family in 1977. She worked for several different institutions and established multiple choirs upon settling in Turkey. The artist was also interested in opera alongside choir music. She gave many concerts and participated in multiple different competitions. This research will study the influence of Gökçen Koray on the improvement and popularization of Turkish music and Turkish choir music by extension. | |
