Girit Adası'nda homojen bir halk bulunmaması, "Büyük Devletler'in" izlemiş olduğu politikalar ve Yunanistan'ın "Megali İdea" nasyonalist düşüncesi tarafından körüklenen bu isyanlar Girit'in tarihinde önemli rol oynadı. 1897 yılında özerkleşen ve 1908 yılında Yunanistan'a bağlanan Girit Adası'nda çıkan bu isyanlar sonucu oluşan sorunlar adadaki Müslüman Türk halkın göç etmesine sebep oldu. Osmaniye Mahallesi, Girit Adası'ndan gelen göçmenler için 1901 yılında Sultan II. Abdülhamit'in emriyle kuruldu. Bu çalışmada, Girit Türklerinin göç döneminde ve sonrasında yaşadığı süreç, Osmaniye Mahallesi üzerinden, Başaran ailesinin anılarından yararlanılarak anlatılmıştır.
Since the beginning of the 19th century, many revolts have taken place in Crete. These revolts were fueled by the lack of homogeneity within the people of Crete Island, the policies pursued by the Great Powers and the Greek nationalism ideology "Megale Idea" and played a huge part in the history of Crete. The problems caused by these riots in Crete Island, which became autonomous in 1897 and incorporated into the Greek state in 1908, resulted with the immigration of the Muslim Turks from the island. Osmaniye District was built by the orders of Sultan Abdulhamit II for the immigrants from Crete Island in 1901. In this study, the experiences of Cretan Turks during and after the immigration were explained through Osmaniye District by using the memories of the Başaran family.
