dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.en_US

dc.description.abstractKavaklıdere Şarapları, Türkiye Cumhuriyeti’nin ilk yıllarında Anadolu’da yüzyıllardır farklı halkların ve kültürlerin bağcılık ve şarapçılık geleneklerinin cumhuriyet döneminde de devam edebilmesini sağlamak amacıyla Cenap And tarafından 1929’da Ankara’da kurulmuştur. Kuruluşu itibariyle Ankara’nın sosyal ve ekonomik yapısını büyük anlamda etkilemiş, Türkiye’de şarapçılık endüstrisini başlatmıştır. İsmini aldığı Kavaklı Dere etrafında yer alan, hasadını ve üretimini bu bölgede gerçekleştiren Kavaklıdere Şarapları, bölgenin kalkınmasında büyük rol oynamıştır. Cumhuriyetin refahının artışı ve büyümesi ile birlikte gelen çok partili sistem döneminde Ankara yavaşça Kavaklıdere Şaraplarının bağlarının etrafında büyümeye devam etmiştir. Kavaklıdere Şarapları’nın yıllar içerisinde şehirleşmekte olan Ankara’nın merkezinde kalması ve bağları besleyen ana su kaynağı olan Kavaklı Derenin kurutulması ile bu lokasyonda Kavaklıdere Şarapları üretime devam etmekten vazgeçer ve 1987’de Ankara şehir merkezinin dışındaki Akyurt’ta yer alan yeni tesislerine taşınır. Kavaklıdere Şarapları’nın orjinal semtinden taşınmış olmasına rağmen şirketin etkisi bölgede günümüzde bile görülebilmektedir.en_US
dc.description.abstractKavaklıdere Şarapları was established in 1929 by Cenap And in Ankara in order to keep the tradition of viticulture and vine-making that had been present in the peoples and cultures of Anatolıa for centuries. Beginning with its foundation, the company had profoundly affected the social and economic structure of Ankara, and started the winery industry in Turkey. Situated around the Kavaklı Dere, Kavaklıdere Şarapları played a significant role in the development of the region. With increase in wealth and growth in the republic that brought about the multiparty system, Ankara slowly developed around Kavaklıdere Şarapları. Over the years, Kavaklıdere had become one of the central neighborhoods of Ankara as the city urbanized around Kavaklıdere Şarapları and the main water source that supplied the vineyards, Kavaklı Dere, had dried up. These reasons prompted the company to cease its operations at its original location and move its main offices to the new facilities outside central Ankara, in Akyurt in 1987. Even though Kavaklıdere Şarapları no longer operates in its original location, their mark on the neighborhood can be clearly seen to this day.en_US
