| dc.description | The History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards. | en_US |

| dc.description.abstract | Anadolu, stratejik konumu sayesinde birçok eski uygarlığın yaşamış olduğu bir coğrafyadır. Bu uygarlıklardan biri olan Hititler, M.Ö. 2000-1200 yılları arasında Anadolu'da varlık göstermekteydi ve M.Ö. 14. yüzyılda Şapinuva adlı kentten devlet idaresini gerçekleştirmekteydi. Bu araştırma, Şapinuva Antik Kenti'nin keşif sürecine, coğrafi önemine, Hitit İmparatorluğu içindeki konumuna ve sosyo-kültürel yapısına odaklanmayı amaçlamaktadır. Şapinuva şehri, ticaret, diplomasi ve yönetim merkezi olarak hizmet veren; Hititlerin idari merkezlerinden biriydi. Bu antik kentin keşfi, Hitit halkının sosyal yapısı, dini inançları ve sanatsal gelenekleri de dahil olmak üzere günlük yaşamlarına dair ışık tuttu. Bugün, Şapinuva'nın bir turizm destinasyonu olarak korunması ve tanıtılması hedeflenmektedir. Ziyaretçilerin bu medeniyetin tarihini ve kültürel mirasını deneyimlemelerine olanak sağlamak için çalışmalar sürmektedir. Bu nedenle, Şapinuva Antik Kenti'nde gerçekleşen kazıların ilerleme süreci ve kentin turizme kazandırılması için yapılması gerekenler de ele alınmıştır. | |
| dc.description.abstract | Due to its location, Anatolia has hosted many ancient civilizations. One of these civilizations, the Hittites, dates back between 2000 and 1200 B.C. The rulers of this civilization administered the state from the city called Sapinuwa during the 14th Century B.C. This research focuses on the Sapinuwa Ancient City, the importance of its way of administration, the existence of the Hittite Empire and the socio-cultural structure. The city of Sapinuwa was one of the Hitites’ primary administrative centers, serving as a hub for trade, diplomacy, and governance. The discovery of this ancient city has provided insights into the daily lives of the Hittite people, including their social structure, religious beliefs, and artistic traditions. Today, efforts are underway to preserve and promote Sapinuwa as a tourist destination, allowing visitors to experience the history and cultural heritage of this civilization. In addition, the progress of the excavations in the Sapinuwa Ancient City and what needs to be done to improve tourism in the city were also discussed. | |
