dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.

dc.description.abstractDevrim arabaları Türkiye otomotiv endüstrisinde önemli bir yer tutmaktadır. Bu projenin yüksek mühendislerinden biri olan Rıfat Serdaroğlu Türkiye'de oldukça işinde başarılı ve saygı duyulan bir makine mühendisidir. Küçük yaşlardan itibaren aldığı eğitim ve makinelere olan ilgisi, onun Devrim projesinde yer almasını sağlayan ilk adımdır. Devlet Demiryolları'nın yurt dışında eğitimi çin yaptığı sınavlara girerek başarıl ıbir sonuç alan Serdaroğlu, Amerika'da aldığı eğitimler sayesinde Devrim projesinde yer alma yolunda bir adım daha ilerledi. Türkiye'ye döndükten sonra lokomotifler üzerinde çalışan Rıfat Bey ve ekibi Devrim Arabaları projesinin ortaya çıkması ile bu projeyi yönetmek üzere görevlendirildiler.Projenin gelişmesinde ve ortaya çıkmasında önemli bir yere sahip olan Serdaroğlu, bu projeden sonrada Devlet Demir yollarında çalışmaya devam etti. İşini ve özel hayatını ayrı tutmayı başaran Rıfat Bey, ailesine düşkün, iyi bir eş ve iyi bir baba oldu. Mesleğine bağlı bir mühendis olmasının yanı sıra, doğa ve spor sevgisi, tamirat gibi hobileri de vardı. Uzun yıllarını çalışarak geçirdikten sonra emekliliğe ayrıldı ve kısa bir süre sonra vefat etti. Rıfat Serdaroğlu'nun hayatı dönemin şartları gözönünde bulundurularak incelendiğinde, basında yer alanlardan farklı bir Devrim Arabaları hikayesi ortaya çıkıyor.
dc.description.abstractDevrim Cars have an important place in Turkish industry. This project's certificated engineer Rıfat Serdaroğlu was a successful and respected mechanical engineer in Turkey.Since childhood, his education and interests in machines were his initial step towards being a part of the project of Devrim. Serdaroğlu received a positive result from the Turkish State Railways' exam and was then able to study in the United States of America, which was another contribution to him joining the project. After he returned to Turkey, he worked on locomotives and was assigned to conduct the project with his working team. Serdaroğlu kept working in the Turkish State Railways after his important contribution to the development of Devrim. Being capable of separating his professional and personal life, he was a caring father and husband. Besides his attachment to his profession, he also was a nature and sports lover among his other hobbies. After working for many years, Serdaroğlu was retired and died a couple year safter that.The life of Rıfat Serdaroğlu being studied through the conditions of histime, awhole other story appears compared to the one that was shown by the press.
