dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.

dc.description.abstractTürk havacılığının önemli pilotlarından biri olan Hasan Tahsin Arısan, 20 Kasım 1954' te Kalecik'te doğmuştur. 1976 yılında Hava Harp Okulunu bitirerek aynı yıl orduda uçuşa başlamış ve Türk Silahlı Kuvvetleri'nde 'uçuş öğretmeni' olarak 1996 yılına kadar görev yapmıştır. Bu dönem içinde önemli operasyonlarda görev yapmış, pek çok başarıya imza atmıştır. 'Birinci Ana Jet Üssü 112 Filo Komutanı' olarak 1996 yılında emekli olmuştur. Aynı yıl Türk Hava Yolları kadrosuna geçerek çok sevdiği eğitmen pilot görevine burada da devam etmiş, "Kaptan Pilot" unvanını alarak mesleğindeki uzmanlığını göstermiştir. 25 Şubat 2009 tarihi hem Türk havacılık tarihi hem de Hasan Tahsin Arısan ve sevenleri tarafından unutulmayacak bir gün olmuştur. O gün, İstanbul-Amsterdam uçuşunu yapan Kaptan Pilot, büyük bir felaketi önlemiş, kendi canını feda ederek pek çok kişinin hayatını kurtarmıştır. Günümüzde, "Türkiye'nin kahraman pilotu" olarak anılmaktadır.
dc.description.abstractHasan Tahsin Arısan, an important pilot of Turkish aviation, was born on November 20, 1954 in Kalecik. In 1976, he won the Military Academy and spent his childhood in Kalecik until then. During the military period, he took part in the dogfight with the Greeks, in the operations on the Aegean Sea and in the air operations in Northern Iraq. Following his military retirement, Hasan Tahsin Arısan joined Turkish Airlines in 1996 where he served as a flight instructor and continued his career as a captain pilot. He was martyred in Istanbul-Amsterdam flight on February 25, 2009, which was determined as his last flight before taking office as a top rank. Today, he is referred to as the "hero pilot of the Turkey" in the media.
