dc.descriptionThe History of Turkey course (HIST200) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards.

dc.description.abstractTarihi zenginliği ile bilinen Türkiye eser kaçakçılığı ve definecilikle yıllar boyu mücadele etmek zorunda kalmıştır. Bu mücadelesinde emeği büyük olan Özgen Acar Yorgun Herkül heykelinden Karun Hazineleri'ne kadar birçok eser ve eşyanın ülkeye geri getirilmesini sağlamıştır. Yıllarca uğraşmış ve başarılı sonuçlara ulaşabilmiştir. Bu yazıda da eser kaçakçılığının ve defineciliğin neden yapıldığının sebepleri araştırılmıştır. Sayın Özgen Acar'ın geri getirilmesini sağladığı eserlerin neler olduğuna ve tarihteki yerlerine değinilmiştir. Bu eserlerin geri getirilmesindeki süreçten, Türkiye'nin bu sürece katkılarından ve Özgen Acar'ın arkeoloji muhabirliğine verdiği önemden bahsedilmiştir ve asıl mesleği olan gazetecilik hayatı anlatılmıştır.
dc.description.abstractTurkey is known for its historical richness and it is struggling with smuggling and treasure hunting for long years. Özgen Acar, who had great efforts in this struggle, brought many works and items from the Tired Hercules statue to the Treasures of Karun back to the country. He worked for years and achieved successful results. In this article, why treasure hunting and smuggling are made is researched. Then pieces which retrieved by Özgen Acar has been investigated, how the process went and how they retrieved to the place in history. The process in bringing back these works, Turkey's contributions to this process and Ozgen Acar's main profession archeology and journalism life are described.
